On the "About the Author" page, he mentions he has a cat, and that the cat is also a Democrat.
Given that the main characters in the book are squirrels, I think he missed a chance to illustrate important points about party unity — in particular, how the Democrats don't seem to be very good at it.

That's pretty ridiculous but nowhere near as bad as NAMBLA's Guess How Much I Love You.
